Install UI Overlay for macOS and Chrome

Set up the desktop overlay app and browser extension for visual comparison, annotations, and local review reports against design mocks.

macOS desktop app

  1. Download the current macOS DMG from the UI Overlay homepage.
  2. Open the DMG and drag UI Overlay into Applications.
  3. If macOS says the app is damaged, double-click the repair command included in the DMG to run the matching xattr fix.
  4. Launch it from Applications. If Gatekeeper asks for confirmation, use Right click, then Open.
  5. Import one or more local mock images and tune opacity, scale, offsets, and click-through mode.

The current DMG is distributed as a non-notarized build. The repair command exists to reduce setup friction for testers.

Chrome extension

  1. Install UI Overlay from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Open a normal webpage that you want to review.
  3. Enable the floating page control button from the extension settings.
  4. Import a local mock image, align it over the live page, and use annotation mode when you need to export findings.
